Civil Rights Game: Chicago White Sox v New York Mets

Well, the inaugural series was pretty ugly. The pitching was solid, even though Buehrle struggled loosening up, but the offense was non-existent. I’m not crying in my beer yet, but scoring a total of five runs in three games against the Royals isn’t really going to strike fear in the hearts of the Twins. As I unimpressively predicted, the line-up is already being shuffled around game-to-game. DeWayne Wise has yet to reach base in ten at-bats, which explains his plummet from lead off hitter as recently as Wednesday to his current home in the ninth spot. This is probably a good move… I feel better about Getz leading off with Pierzynski or Fields batting second. You could even move Alexei up if he starts getting hot, but based on his Wise-worthy .000 OBP, that isn’t any time soon.

This upcoming series with the Twins could out to be an important one, as far as April goes. The performances of Jose Contreras and Bartolo Colon at the back-end of the Sox rotation might be the difference between a fun season and a really, really long one. And yeah, it’s still chilly out, but the Sox need to start hitting the ball. Digging a hole behind the Twins in April isn’t a particularly good idea, especially with how good they play in the dome. Also finally I’d like to see Buehrle take another step forward; I’m not really worried about him in the long-term, but the sooner he starts looking like his old self, the better.
